Through our commitment to new products-whether digital journals or entirely new forms of communication-we have continued to look for the most efficient and effective means to serve our readership. Since the late 1960s, we have experimented with generation after generation of electronic publishing tools. The Press's enthusiasm for innovation is reflected in our continuing exploration of this frontier. We were among the first university presses to offer titles electronically and we continue to adopt technologies that allow us to better support the scholarly mission and disseminate our content widely. This research highlights that gifted programs vary widely and that further research on this topic can provide valuable information to policy makers and educators.Īmong the largest university presses in the world, The MIT Press publishes over 200 new books each year along with 30 journals in the arts and humanities, economics, international affairs, history, political science, science and technology along with other disciplines. The holder of the gifted endorsement is authorized to serve as a teacher or a coordinator of programs for the gifted and talented from the pre-kindergarten. Finally, a review of the research on gifted education is provided. Sincemany of the operational details of these programs are determined by local education agencies, data on a nationally representative sample of schools are then used to provide information on gifted curricula, instructor training and experience, and the selection process for admission. This policy brief aims to fill this void by providing national and state-level statistics on participation rates, funding appropriations, and policies on gifted education. ![]() Despite the popularity of these programs, the literature lacks a comprehensive review of gifted education in the United States.
